The 45 minute timer for this subject is stopped. When you continue, you pick up on the same question.
NSW Department of Education & NESA syllabus aligned
Find where your child is working, then we bridge the gap.
This online assessment is for Year 1 to Year 12. Every student completes it before enrolment. Primary (Years 1 to 6) covers English, Writing and Maths, about 45 minutes each. Years 1 and 2 sit a shorter paper in English and Maths so it is not a long stack of harder years. Years 7 to 10 sit English (reading and writing together) and Maths, 45 minutes each. Years 11 to 12 sit a 45 minute paper for each HSC course they choose. After they finish, a parent requests a booking with the centre manager to review the results and see how we can help. We will send a booking form link by email so you can arrange the face to face.
Adaptive, not a one-off quiz
In Years 1 to 6 and 7 to 10, English and Maths start at your child’s current school year. Years 1 and 2 sit a shorter paper. If they are very secure, we add at most a brief extra set of 3 questions from the next year, still inside the same 45 minutes. From Year 3, if they are answering securely (about 80%), we add a short harder set from the next year, not another full paper. If the starting year is too hard (below 50%), we step down. Primary stays inside Years 1 to 6; junior secondary stays inside Years 7 to 10. Senior papers are one 45 minute sitting per HSC course.
NESA 2022 outcomes
Primary and Years 7 to 10 follow the NSW English K-10 and Mathematics K-10 syllabuses (2022). Years 11 to 12 follow the HSC English and Mathematics courses (Standard, Advanced, Extension 1, Extension 2). Senior items are original HSC-style placement questions, not copied exam papers.
Compulsory before enrolment
We do not place a student from the year on a school report. The assessment finds the true working level; we then write a personalised workbook from that level. After the papers, request a booking with the centre manager. We will send you a booking form link by email to arrange the face to face. We do not finish the journey online.

Works on a phone. You can pause each paper’s timer and come back on the same device, we store progress in this browser only. Allow about 2 hours 15 minutes for all three primary subjects, about 90 minutes for Years 7 to 10 English and Maths, or 45 minutes for each senior course.
Before you begin
Why every student sits this assessment first
At Bridgeway we do not enrol a student until we have seen how they actually work. The year on a school report is not a placement. This online assessment is how we find the true starting point, then we write a personalised workbook from that level, not from the year printed on the report.
Why we assess
Bridgeway does not hand a Year 2 student a Year 2 textbook by default. School year is not the same as working level. Two Year 4s in the same classroom can be years apart: one still consolidating last year’s work, another already stretching a year ahead. If we started from the year on the report, we would be guessing. The papers are adaptive (they start at the current school year and step up or down) so we can see the true level.
Personalised workbooks
Once we know the working level, we build a personalised workbook from that level, not from the year on the school report. Work is therefore not too easy and not crushing, it matches the student. English, Writing and Maths are included as relevant. Years 1 to 12 are covered, including the HSC courses a senior student is actually taking.
Compulsory before enrolment
Every student must complete this online assessment before enrolment. That is not a formality. Without it we would be guessing, and guessing wastes a term, for the family and for us. The paper is compulsory because placement has to rest on evidence, not on a school year written on a report.
What happens on the day
The student sits English, Writing and Maths as relevant, about 45 minutes per subject, on this website. Years 1 to 12 and HSC courses are covered. They can pause the timer. A quiet table, a charged device, and a parent nearby for the little ones is enough. You will enter the student’s name, school year, school and subjects first, we ask for parent contacts only after the papers, so the sitting stays with the student.
After the test
After the test, request a booking with the centre manager to review the results and see how we can help. We will send you a booking form link by email so you can arrange the face to face.
